Château Cheval Blanc. Owned by LVMH, the latest big event at the estate, other than its excellent 100 Parker score, has been the unveiling of the new wine store. A canopy of white moulded cement that stretches out over the vineyards and covers 52 cement tanks. This marvel designed by Christian Portzamparc makes for a spectacular setting for the venerable Cheval Blanc wines. Pierre Lurton runs the estate with a rigorous and strong environmental and ecological conscience, which doesn’t however exclude innovation and Art with a capital “A”. The Premier Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion is smart and sober like a pashmina. The blend’s uniqueness is the high ratio of cabernet franc in its assembly. A grape variety that brings a cover of freshness to the merlot and enables it to travel well through time. A wine that should absolutely be put down, Cheval Blanc is an invitation to future tastings.
